Senior Warehouse Operative

We’re seeking a highly organised and proactive Senior Warehouse Operative to help support the day‑to‑day running of our busy warehouse operations in Hedge End, Southampton. In this key role, you’ll work closely with the Warehouse Supervisor to ensure all warehouse activities are delivered safely, accurately, and efficiently, while helping to guide and support the wider operational team. Responsibilities

Team Support & Leadership

  • Act as a point of reference for Warehouse Operatives, offering help, guidance, and support during daily operations.
  • Lead by example in productivity, accuracy, professionalism, and Health & Safety compliance.
  • Practice and promote Pristine Condition manual handling techniques, as required.
  • Provide support to Project Managers and Operatives when needed and relay key updates to the Supervisor.

Warehouse Operations

  • Carry out Goods In activities including checking, storing, updating, and reporting any errors, omissions or defects immediately.
  • Perform accurate and timely picking of materials lists using handheld devices.
  • Review stock levels, reporting any deficiencies or damage and take part in stocktakes as required.
  • Complete dispatch orders in line with company procedures, deadlines, and quality standards.
  • Support the safe loading of Warehouse delivery vehicles in line with vehicle schedules to support operational efficiency.

Loading, Yard & Safety Operations

  • Support safe loading and unloading of delivery vehicles, plant, and trailers in line with loading restrictions.
  • Act as a banksman when required and support safe yard supervision.
  • Ensure equipment and plant used is maintained in accordance with maintenance plans, reporting any damage or deficiencies, and issued using in house systems to allow for tracking as required.
  • Identify hazards and report incidents or near misses promptly.

Housekeeping, Waste & Compliance

  • Maintain high housekeeping standards across the warehouse and yard to support a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Dispose of waste items safely and coordinate disposal by others when necessary.
  • Ensure all activities comply with Health, Safety & Environmental policies and legal requirements.

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Share ideas for improving warehouse processes, storage solutions, and system efficiency.
  • Support implementation of new working practices, system enhancements, and operational improvements.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement within the warehouse team.

Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years of experience in a warehouse or yard environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to guide, support, and inform team members effectively.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address issues proactively.
  • Competent in using handheld devices, stock management systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise multiple tasks.
  • Forklift truck certification preferred.
  • Sound working knowledge of warehouse Health & Safety procedures.
  • Confident communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Additional:

  • Full UK driving licence (ability to tow preferred).
  • Forklift or plant certifications (desirable but can be trained).
  • First Aid certification (advantageous).
  • GCSEs or equivalent.
  • Basic IT competence, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • A 40hr working week, plus half an hour unpaid lunch break.
