As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Fleet & Transport Manager to lead the safe, compliant, and efficient management of our fleet, plant, equipment and transport operations.

Foundation House, Hedge End, Southampton

Responsibilities

  • Oversee compliance with the Company’s Operator Licence requirements and support the journey towards Earned Recognition.
  • Ensure vehicles, plant, tools, and equipment remain compliant through inspection, calibration, and statutory testing.
  • Maximise fleet and plant availability through effective maintenance planning and supplier management.
  • Promote and embed a strong safety-first culture across all drivers and fleet users.
  • Manage road traffic collisions, investigations, repairs, and driver debrief processes.
  • Investigate driving-related incidents, complaints, and Notices of Intended Prosecution, implementing actions that improve driver behaviour and performance.
  • Lead the vehicle replacement programme, including specification, fit-out, telematics, and branding.
  • Develop meaningful performance reporting and KPIs to support effective decision-making.
  • Manage resources, equipment levels, and departmental structures to support operational delivery.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Transport team, driving performance and engagement.
  • Manage fleet-related supplier contracts to ensure service quality, compliance, and value for money.
  • Control vehicle and plant hire requirements, balancing operational needs with commercial considerations.
  • Drive continuous improvement across safety, compliance, carbon reduction, and cost management.
  • Stay ahead of legislative developments and industry best practice ‘hot topics’.
  • Support budget development, performance monitoring, and cost control activities.
  • Ensure fleet management systems and data remain accurate and reliable.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in fleet and transport management.
  • Strong knowledge of Operator Licence requirements and transport legislation.
  • Experience managing a diverse fleet across multiple locations.
  • Strong contract and supplier management capability.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Experience using fleet management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Transport Manager CPC (Essential)
  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (Desirable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
