InstaVolt and CIUS partner up for UK’s largest EV charging hub

InstaVolt and CIUS partner up for UK’s largest EV charging hub

InstaVolt awarded Connect It with a 6-month design and build contract for the construction of adoptable highway, substation and 8 CPE250 rapid vehicle chargers (EVC), based at Stroud Park in Banbury, off the M40.

Managing Director, Peter Leech said: “We’re delighted to be working with InstaVolt, who has been a long-standing customer of ours. It’s great to be getting back underway after the lockdown, and the weather has been perfect for construction activities.”

In order to have this work approved by the local highways, Connect It engaged with structural engineers to design the adoptable highway, which is set to be the UK’s largest hubs for charging electrical vehicles.

The team will excavate and remove approximately 1000 tonnes of muck off-site, design and install a surface water connection, design, and install 11kv substation and complete offsite excavation up to the point of connection (POC). Allowing the team to design the arrangement of 8 rapid EVC’s and the installation of cabling from feeder pillar to distribution pillar and the EVC’s.

The Connect It team is committed to working with all the various third parties that may impact the delivery of the utility connections for InstaVolt and are well equipped to work at challenging and busy locations.

The work will continue over the coming months, with the site staff, setting out engineers, civils engineers, groundworkers, electrical and cable joining, and commissioning engineers following social distancing procedures to ensure the safety of the team and others.

The installation is one of several EVC projects that Connect It has been involved with across the Midlands and South of England.

InstaVolt charging stations are available to use on a pay-as-you-go basis, the only requirement is a contactless payment card to begin charging.

The new rapid electrical charging stations are capable of charging the electric vehicle’s battery in less than 30 minutes, making the EV charging process much faster. Great news for motorists travelling along one of the country’s busiest motorways.

Connect IT and InstaVolt have another 8 station charger site planned for commissioning on the 16th June 2020 in Necton and an additional, 6 charger site in Gosforth (Newcastle) which is planned to commence on the 15th June 2020.
